Scoring methodology

How the Vintor score works

A transparent look at how we evaluate every vehicle. No hidden formulas, no paid placements.

Example score 82% confidence
Why confidence matters

A score is only useful when we know how much of it is verified

Two vehicles can share the same score but carry very different levels of information. We always show confidence, source quality, and missing signals.

Score 72, confidence 92%

Most signals verified. This score is dependable.

9 verified 2 estimated

Score 78, confidence 41%

Only a few signals available. Be careful with this result.

4 verified 7 missing
A lower score with high confidence is more useful than a higher score with low confidence.
Five dimensions

The signals behind the score

Each category contributes to an explainable scorecard. What we do not know is shown explicitly so the result never suggests more certainty than we have.

1

Price fairness

25% Vintor

We compare the asking price with similar vehicles on the Dutch market. Make, model, year, mileage, and fuel type all feed the comparison.

When no comparable listings exist, the signal is marked as estimated and confidence drops.

2

APK condition

30% RDW

We analyze the full APK history, including defects and the upcoming expiry date. A clean history without major deviations weighs heavily.

APK data comes directly from the public RDW registry.

3

Mileage consistency

20% RDW

We check whether the mileage makes sense for the age, segment, and historical odometer readings. Jumps or missing readings lower confidence.

Mileage anomalies always trigger a risk flag alongside the score.

4

Owner history

15% RDW

Previous owners, import status, and the registration timeline determine how transparent the history is. A stable ownership path scores higher.

Imported vehicles may have incomplete Dutch history.

5

Running costs

10% Vintor

We estimate the total monthly cost of ownership including road tax, insurance, fuel, and depreciation. Lower costs support a stronger score.

Costs are estimates based on averages and can vary by situation.

Score bands

How the score bands work

The band gives quick direction, while confidence shows how certain we are about that conclusion.

80-100

Excellent

A strong score, usually supported by a solid mix of verifiable signals and an attractive price.

Look for confirmation around price and condition signals here.

65-79

Good

Most buyers can trust the baseline here, provided the key signals are confirmed.

This is often the zone where price and condition come together best.

50-64

Needs attention

There are enough positive signals to keep looking, but also clear reasons to be more critical.

Use the detail page to understand the weak spots in the vehicle.

0-49

Weak

Multiple red flags or too little verified data make this a cautious choice.

Be extra careful here, especially if confidence is low too.

How the gauge is drawn

A fixed score with a visible uncertainty layer

The gauge combines a solid arc for verified data with a dashed arc for estimated data. Missing information stays visible instead of being hidden.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions about the score

What does the score actually mean?
The Vintor score is a number from 0 to 100 that summarizes how a vehicle performs across five dimensions: price, condition, mileage, history, and costs. A higher score indicates a better overall proposition. It is not a valuation or guarantee.
Can dealers influence their score?
No. Scores are calculated automatically from public data. Dealers cannot pay for higher scores or influence the algorithm. The only way to improve a score is to offer a competitively priced vehicle in good condition.
What does low confidence mean?
Confidence tells you how much data was available to calculate the score. When data is missing, for example no comparable listings or limited APK history, confidence drops. A low-confidence score is still useful, but it should be read more cautiously.
How often are scores updated?
Scores are recalculated when new data becomes available, usually when dealer inventory is refreshed or new RDW data is published. The calculation time is always shown next to the score.
Is the score a guarantee?
No. The Vintor score is indicative and based on publicly available data. It does not replace a physical inspection, professional valuation, or independent advice. Always verify the condition of a vehicle before purchase.
